Neuromuscular Physical Therapy

NMT is used for injury prevention and cure. I treat people with chronic long-standing pain, people with acute sudden pain, and people with occupational injuries - consistently finding that NMT is a hugely effective treatment for the elimination of pain caused by soft tissue (muscular) strain, overuse, and trauma, regardless of when the injury occurred.

The conditions that can be successfully treated by NMT include:

Back Pain, Neck Pain, Whiplash, Shoulder Pain, Rotator cuff injuries, Hip Pain, Sciatica, Knee Pain, Foot Pain, Ankle sprains, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Shin Splints, Tendonitis, Spasms, Cramps, Strains, and Postural Distortion.

I utilise specific massage therapy, flexibility stretching, and home care to eliminate the causes of most neuromuscular pain . This specific and scientific approach to muscular pain relief brings about balance between the musculo-skeletal system and the nervous system.
NMT enhances the function of joints, muscles and biomechanics (movement) as it releases endorphins which are the body's own natural pain killers. By using Sports Massage and a number of techniques including Soft Tissue Release, Muscle Energy Techniques, Positional Release on soft tissue injuries, this therapy can speed recovery, reduce scar tissue and help return an injured area to its full functionality. It may also be used post-operative in order to return areas of the body that become restricted due to surgery or after a period of time in plaster, to their full range of motion.

Neurokinetic Therapy is an assessment tool used within each session to assess the pain and movement problem, use specific testing to find the root cause of the problem and successfully treat it so it does not recur. It is a very effective assessment tool that establishes what what’s working well, what’s not working so well and what we can do about it to get things back in balance so you can feel and move well again. Our bodies contain hundreds of muscles and joints, all of which are controlled and coordinated by our brain and nervous system. Over time, poor postural habits, injuries and physical and emotional traumas can affect our brain’s response, leading to dysfunctions in how our brain and body communicate.

Sports Massage - prevention of injuries, rehabilitation and optimal performance.
Pre Event - Massage before an event involves stretching muscles to improve flexibility and circulation which is important to injury prevention.
Post event  - The aim is to loosen muscles that have become stiff during competition and therefore aid relaxation. Weekly maintenance sports massage eases pain brought about by intensive training and keeps muscles flexible and in good health for forthcoming competition

Trigger Point Dry Needling is used reduce muscle pain and dysfunction by releasing tight areas in the muscle known as myofascial trigger points. A needle is applied to a specific area of dysfunction, a trigger point is stimulated increasing the blood flow to the area which helps to relax the muscle. After dry needling treatment, the area that was treated will feel much softer and relaxed and the person will feel looser.

Deep Tissue Massage is a technique that focuses on the deeper hidden layers to release tension in the body. Deep Tissue Massage will loosen muscles, alleviate pain and increase mobility. It is both corrective and therapeutic.
Holistic Massage is a treatment designed to bring about a deep state of relaxation and reduce muscle tension and stress. It benefits the client on many levels - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. In a relaxed state, the body's natural energy is restored and the natural repair system of the body is improved.
